Google reportedly shipped a ‘milestone’ of 10 million Pixel phones in 2023

According to Nikkei Asia, Google in 2023 shipped “around 10 million” Pixel phones and plans to repeat that “milestone” this year.

The publication cites a source that says “Google reached a milestone last year for its Pixel phones and it has set an ambitious goal of [shipping] another 10 million units in 2024.”

The Pixel 7 and 7 Pro presumably made up a bulk of those 2023 shipments, but no breakdown was reported. Nikkei Asia previously reported that Google placed an order of 8 million devices, and over 7 million for the Pixel 6 series.

Then there’s the Pixel 6a in the first half of the year and the 7a in the second. Google also launched the Pixel Fold, while 2023 should incorporate at least 2.5 months of Pixel 8 and 8 Pro shipments.

Today’s report also detailed Google’s plan to manufacture the Pixel 8 series in India. This initiative was announced last October. This is part of Google diversifying production beyond China, as well as Vietnam, to improve “supply chain resilience.”

The first 8 Pro devices should arrive in the second quarter (April-June), with the Pixel 8 following “around the middle of this year.” Google is beginning with a “small volume” that somewhat reflects how the Pixel 8 series will enter mid-life by then.
