Google’s Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro are matching their best prices to date

We’re firmly living in 2024, and if there’s no other tradition to lean on after setting your New Year’s resolutions, you invariably can rely on Samsung’s tone-setting phone announcements to make early ripples. Rumor has it we’ll see the Galaxy S24 series in short order, and phones like the Pixel 8 family may lose a bit of sheen in its wake. The Pixel 8 and 8 Pro aren’t suddenly obsolete, however, and that’ll only lead to sharper discounts. In fact, this dream duo (we think they’re two of the best Android phones you can buy right now) is already seeing substantial price cuts despite being just a few months old.

Right now, the 128GB Pixel 8 is back down to its Black Friday price of $549 ($150 off) at Amazon, Best Buy, and the Google Store. The Pixel 8 Pro won’t be outdone, though. It’s available for $799 ($200 off) in the 128GB confirmation from the same retailers: Amazon, Best Buy, and Google. The same price cuts apply to the upgraded storage models, too.

When comparing the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro, the latter justifies its premium price with better onboard AI capabilities, an extra 5x telephoto camera sensor (three rear cameras total), and a temperature sensor for whatever quirky needs you may have. If none of those extras tickle you, then the base Pixel 8 model offers incredible value. Either way, you’re in for a well-designed piece of hardware that works seamlessly with Android 14. The platform feels just right on Google’s maturing Tensor G3 chipset, which falls just short of competing devices’ top speeds but enables increasingly useful AI tools that push the bar for computational photography and video.

The Pixel 8 comes with just a couple of key upgrades over the Pixel 7, and it misses out on several higher-end features on the 8 Pro, like a telephoto lens. But its combination of price, features, and the promise of seven years of OS updates makes it the best mainstream Android phone to buy right now.

The Pixel 8 Pro offers some solid upgrades over the standard Pixel 8, including a 5x telephoto lens, a bigger 6.7-inch screen, and the promise of more on-device AI capabilities in the near future.

If you missed out on your chance to pick up four AirTags for the price of three over the holidays, you’ll be happy to know that Amazon has circled the block with a similar deal. Right now, you can save $21 after clipping the on-page coupon for an additional $10 off the sale price, which drops Apple’s Bluetooth trackers to just $78.99 at checkout. That’s only a few dollars more than the new price floor established during Black Friday.

Even at full price, Apple’s AirTags are invaluable for the hopelessly forgetful. If you have an iPhone 11 or later, these trackers allow you to pinpoint their location using the Find My app with impressive precision when you’re within reasonable distance of them. If you’re farther away — perhaps in a different building or another state — they’ll send periodic coordinates to Apple’s massive Find My network, which may help you find your lost or stolen items before they disappear into the proverbial abyss. AirTags are small and thin enough to easily hide in your bag, too, or your purse or wallet. You can also use an AirTag holder (sold separately) to attach them to your keys and other items you’re prone to leaving behind.

Apple’s AirTag is unobtrusive, waterproof, and taps into the massive Find My network for out-of-range locating.

The Windows-based Asus ROG Ally is currently on sale at Best Buy for $200 off with an AMD Ryzen Z1 chip, bringing the price of the entry-level config down to $399.99. Not to be confused with the significantly more powerful Z1 Extreme version we reviewed, this variant is more comparable to the similarly priced Steam Deck, but it doubles the base storage to 512GB and the seven-inch, 120Hz display offers sharper 1080p resolution. You could consider the latter bonus detrimental, however, as it means the underpowered chipset has to work even harder to maximize its potential. The current $30 discount on the Fitbit Inspire 3 — which drops the minimalist fitness band to $69.95 at Amazon, Walmart, and Target — is right on time to tackle those New Year’s fitness goals. The Inspire 3, our favorite Fitbit for those on a budget, features all the essentials needed to produce useful health and wellness readings, including heart rate monitoring and sleep tracking. It offers a vibrant OLED display and an SpO2 sensor as well, which can help with stress management and cycle tracking.Govee remains a top pick for smart RGB lighting among staffers at The Verge, mostly because of its predictable reliability and cost-effectiveness. The AI-powered Govee Sync Box Kit, for instance, is just $74.99 ($125 off) after clicking the on-page coupon at Amazon. It comes with two light bars and a light strip lengthy enough to outfit monitors up to 32 inches (16:9) with full-coverage bias lighting. All of it is controllable through an AI-powered base, which houses several HDMI 2.0 ports for lag- and camera-free responsive lighting in supported games. Beware, however, that the lack of HDMI 2.1 means you’ll be capped out at 60Hz when playing in 4K.The original Anker 622 Magnetic Battery (the version with a kickstand) is one of our favorite MagSafe-compatible chargers. You can affix this sleek, 5,000mAh portable charger to the back of newer iPhones for wire-free power. Anker also makes a similar product that swaps out the stand for a collapsible PopSocket grip (which itself doubles as a stand), and it’s never been cheaper at $39.99 ($30 off). This discount only applies to the white model, however, and the deal is exclusive to Amazon Prime members.
