According to domestic media reports, in order to introduce WeChat and other Tencent-related apps to HarmonyOS, Huawei has also shown great sincerity.
The report mentioned that Huawei is about to reach an agreement with Tencent, allowing the latter’s super app WeChat to run on its HarmonyOS operating system without charging any revenue sharing from within the app.
According to sources, Huawei will agree not to charge any fees for in-app transactions on WeChat.
In exchange, Tencent will continue to maintain and update the WeChat application. However, there is no formal agreement between the two companies requiring Tencent to update the application regularly.
This agreement will not have a significant impact on mobile phone users. Currently, users can download and use WeChat on Huawei phones.
Informants also revealed that Huawei had contacted ByteDance’s Douyin, attempting to discuss revenue sharing, but ByteDance did not show interest in negotiations.
Earlier reports stated that Huawei is considering charging a 20% commission on the HarmonyOS App Store, which is much lower than Google and Apple.
Huawei has not yet charged commissions for in-app purchases of non-game applications on the HarmonyOS App Store.
In comparison, Apple and Google charge a 30% commission for apps, games, movies or music subscriptions purchased through their app stores.
