Huawei is now said to update its Nova line of smartphone with a 12 series of an all-new appearance and potentially upgraded specs. They allegedly include the newest Kirin SoC, said to go to the vanilla model along with triple rear cameras and faster charging. The 12 Pro, on the other hand, might get dual 50MP shooters and the same processor as the top-end Mate X5 foldable.

Huawei’s Nova 11 premium mid-range series launched with EMUI 13 for the global market, 120Hz Display Turbo OLED screens (protected with Kunlun Glass in the Pro variant) and 50MP main cameras in a housing most like those of the flagship P60 line. However, their successors are now believed to ditch the latter for a more traditional traffic-light-like design.

Nevertheless, the new camera hump is tipped to contain upgrades for the “Huawei Nova 12“, which might augment the 11’s 50+8MP shooters with a new 12MP lens. The 12 Pro, on the other hand, might upgrade to a 50+50+12MP set-up.

Then again, both smartphones are expected to retain the 60MP Ultra Wide Portrait selfie camera of their forebears. However, the 12 is also now slated to be the first smartphone to run on the Kirin 830 processor, rather than the well-worn Snapdragon 778G 4G of the 11.

The 12 Pro, on the other hand, might boast the same Kirin 9000S SoC as Huawei’s latest Mate-series flagships. Finally, the 11 might upgrade to 88W charging, whereas the 12 Pro might stick with 100W SuperCharge Turbo 2.0 technology.

The Nova 12 series is believed to launch at the end of 2023, starting at 2,999 yuan (~US$412).

I became a professional writer and editor shortly after graduation. My degrees are in biomedical sciences; however, they led to some experience in the biotech area, which convinced me of its potential to revolutionize our health, environment and lives in general. This developed into an all-consuming interest in more aspects of tech over time: I can never write enough on the latest electronics, gadgets and innovations. My other interests include imaging, astronomy, and streaming all the things. Oh, and coffee.
