The Huawei Pura 70 Ultra is equipped with a 5,200mAh battery, which is pretty standard for a phone of this size and class, and a Kirin 9010, which is anything but. Due to politics this otherwise flagship chip had to be fabbed on an old 7nm node, which limits its performance and efficiency.
In our hands-on review we already saw a preview of what the performance is like, but we are working on a full review, so we will have more to say about that soon. As for the second thing, efficiency, we have already completed our battery tests and are ready to share the results.
The Huawei Pura 70 Ultra achieved an Active use rating of 12:29, which puts it in the middle of the pack. It performs better than some flagships like the Xiaomi 14 Ultra – though, to be fair, we only tested the international variant with a 5,000mAh battery and not the Chinese one with a 5,300mAh battery. Still, the Xiaomi is a full hour behind and 300mAh aren’t enough to fill that gap.
Other competitors like the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra and vivo X100 Pro are an hour and 20 minutes ahead of the Huawei. Those have a semiconductor advantage with 4nm chips from TSMC (designed by Qualcomm and MediaTek, respectively). The vivo does have a larger battery than the rest at 5,400mAh, while the Samsung has a 5,000mAh capacity.
Huawei designed a top-notch modem for the Kirin 9010 and the voice call endurance is great. The video decoder is on the level too, combined with the 6.8” LTPO display, it matches the competition. However, the issue with the old 7nm node becomes apparent in more computationally heavy tasks like browsing and gaming and the Pura falls behind.
