The Joybee K2 Mower is now crowdfunding on Kickstarter. The new model uses a combination of RTK and VSLAM positioning to locate itself. The gadget uses markers you place in areas of your garden with weak RTK signals, which the brand claims leads to blind spot-free navigation. However, no perimeter wires are required.
The K2’s positioning is enhanced by an auto-lift camera for another layer of visual analysis, with a time of flight (TOF) obstacle avoidance tool. The robot can tackle inclines up to 45% and climb over obstacles up to 30mm (~1.2-in) tall. A 4,000 mAh lithium iron phosphate battery allows the gadget to mow up to 2,000 m² (~21,528 ft²) daily. The device is rated as IPX6 waterproof, meaning it can be stored outdoors. Plus, a rain detection feature ensures that the lawn is not mown in adverse weather conditions, which could cause damage. You can control the robot via an accompanying app, setting up multiple zones, creating a mowing schedule and selecting a grass-cutting height.
For the Joybee K2 lawnmower, you can make a Super Early Bird pledge of US$999, a 60% discount on the US$2,499 MSRP. The company is shipping to countries like the US, Canada, the Netherlands, and France, with deliveries estimated for April 2024. Shortly after the campaign launch, Joybee’s US$10,000 funding target for the device was reached.
