The Lenovo Legion Slim 5 with a 14.5-inch OLED panel, an RTX 4060, and a Ryzen 7 7840HS is currently on sale for more than US$300 off with free shipping. With the discount in place, the Legion Slim 5 becomes a pretty sweet deal, as it not only packs decent mid-range performance but it is also portable and features a 120 Hz OLED panel.
The 2023 Legion Slim 5 (14, Gen 8) is Lenovo’s most portable Legion gaming laptop to date. With a 14.5-inch screen and 1.7 kg (3.82 lbs) of weight, the machine is made for people who want satisfactory performance in a form factor that is relatively easy to carry.
In addition to not breaking your back with added bulk, Lenovo has now ensured that the Legion Slim 5 Gen 8 also doesn’t break your wallet by slashing a massive US$317.76 off the retail price for a mid-range configuration of the machine (via slickdeals).
To get to the final US$1202.23 sales price, go to the laptop’s product page and configure the machine with 16 GB of memory and an RTX 4060. Once done, add the notebook to the cart and proceed to checkout. During checkout, scroll down the page and enter coupon codes GAMINGOCTO (if it isn’t already applied) and CELEBRATE2023.
The Legion Slim 5 configuration on sale is headlined by a 14.5-inch 120 Hz OLED display, an RTX 4060 laptop GPU, and a Ryzen 7 7840HS CPU alongside 16 GB of LPDDR5X-6400 memory. A 512 GB PCIe Gen 4 drive handles the storage duties. Thankfully, the laptop carries two M.2 slots, so you can upgrade the storage if need be.
The Lenovo Legion Slim 5 is a standout gaming laptop. We gave the machine a “very good” rating of 88% in our review thanks in part to the strong unassuming chassis, a healthy port selection, and good inputs.
As we mentioned in our review, the Legion Slim 5’s OLED display is the star of the show, since we don’t get to see OLED panels on 14-inch machines. The panel features a 120 Hz refresh rate, a 16:10 aspect ratio, and a 2.8K resolution. We found the display boasts 381 nits of average brightness alongside 100% sRGB, 100% DCI-P3, and 96.5% AdobeRGB coverage. Save for the confusing lack of G-SYNC/VRR, the display is perfectly suitable for both gaming and professional work.
Moving on to performance, the Legion Slim 5 obtained a performance rating of 90% from us. The Ryzen 7 7840HS and the RTX 4060 combo provides the laptop with enough horsepower to run demanding CPU and GPU-intensive tasks without slowing down. During our gaming benchmarks, the Legion Slim 5 managed 60 FPS+ in most of the tested games at QHD resolution with high/ultra graphics. So, the laptop is pretty capable of high refresh rate gaming if you lower the resolution and graphics settings down a notch.
Finally, Lenovo has outfitted the Legion Slim 5 with a large 74 Wh battery. As a result, the notebook lasted 7.5 hours in our real-world web browsing test, an outstanding result for a portable gaming laptop.
