Honda appears to be entering the electric SUV space with an SUV that will slot in next to the Honda Passport. The Prologue will start in the “upper US$40,000s,” and it will be available with 21-inch wheels and an AWD drive train with 288 hp.
When it comes to EVs, Tesla has always ruled the roost, but legacy EV brands have finally started to throw their hats into the ring. In this instance, Honda is joining in on the electric SUV craze with the all-electric Prologue. The new SUV is pitched as a rugged EV with sporty on-road driving dynamics.
The Prologue comes in three different trim levels — EX, Touring, and Elite — to accommodate the different needs of various buyers. The Elite trim will feature dual-motor AWD as standard, although that will also be available in both the EX and Touring trims — which are normally front-wheel-drive — as an option.
Honda hasn’t specified what sort of power figures to expect from the single-motor trims, but it has been reported that the FWD versions will produce in the neighbourhood of 210 hp. The dual-motor specs of the Honda Prologue, on the other hand, will produce 288 hp and 333 lb.-ft. of torque. The electric SUV’s 85 kWh battery will reportedly deliver 300 miles of range and recharge at up to 155 kWh, delivering 65 miles of range in just ten minutes.
The Honda Prologue will come with Google Built-in and wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay as standard, and infotainment is handled via a 11.3-inch touchscreen, while all trims feature an 11-inch digital instrument cluster. The interior also features wireless phone charging and fast charging via two 45 W USB type-C ports in both the first and second rows.
Honda is also loading the Prologue up with all manner of safety and driver assistance tech via the Honda Sensing package, which includes Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS) with Forward Collision Warning (FCW), Road Departure Mitigation (RDM) with Lane Departure Warning (LDW), Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS), and Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) with Low-Speed Follow (LSF), among others.
Honda aims to start delivering the Prologue to US customers in early 2024.
