Nintendo Switch 2 display and storage specs rumor surfaces alongside August announcement claim

More rumors about the Nintendo Switch 2 console have turned up, including some alleged details about some of the key specifications. Apparently, Nintendo wants to make sure the Switch 2 is seen as a next-gen console and not just a basic upgrade. Along with that, a report has claimed that Nintendo might announce the NG Switch soon but to a likely limited audience.

New reports about the Nintendo Switch 2 have surfaced, with the well-known Nate the Hate YouTube channel offering quite a few details (via Reddit). While there are some mentions of things like a 3D Mario game being launched alongside the next-generation Switch, another suggestion of a late 2024 launch, and the subject of an LCD screen being present brought up again, it is the two specific details about possible Switch 2 specs that have interested most. Apparently, the hybrid console could come with an 8-inch display and up to 512 GB of storage.

If true, these would be considerable upgrades for the Nintendo Switch 2. For starters, the OG Switch was released with a 6.2-inch screen while the OLED Model has a 7.0-inch panel. An 8-inch display might not sound that much, but it is actually noticeable, especially as it would make the Switch 2 larger in terms of screen real estate than the Steam Deck (7 inches) and the Asus ROG Ally (7 inches). As for the 512 GB of internal flash memory, this would be a huge bump over the 32 GB storage of the current base model and 64 GB storage of the Switch OLED Model.

Hot on the heels of a VGC report comes a similar one from startmenu, which claims Nintendo could be ready to show the Switch 2 off but only to a select audience. A source used for the article has supposedly revealed that Nintendo has been talking to its partners about new hardware and may be ready to unveil the Switch 2/Switch successor at GamesCom (August 23-27). This has been suggested before, thanks to Nintendo’s confirmation of its presence at the event. But there is the caveat, as reaffirmed by the report’s author, that this potential Switch 2 announcement in August might only be for some lucky business partners and not for the general public.
