Before the official start of the CES conference, leading chip manufacturer Nvidia unveiled a series of significant gaming chip products and announced various partnerships with Chinese gaming companies and electric vehicle firms.
Among these collaborations, Nvidia revealed its partnerships with gaming companies such as miHoYo, Tencent, and NetEase, focusing on AI digital human services. At CED 2024, Nvidia’s Avatar Cloud Engine (ACE) made its debut, showcasing a platform that uses generative AI to create virtual digital humans. This technology enables game, tool, and middleware developers to integrate generative AI models into their virtual digital characters within games and applications.
Nvidia have also launched three new graphics cards: the RTX 4060 Super, RTX 4070Ti Super, and RTX 4080 Super, priced between $599 and $999. These graphics cards are set to be provided for laptops produced by companies like Dell and Lenovo.
Earlier in December 2023, Nvidia introduced the GeForce RTX 4090D, a modified version of an advanced gaming chip designed specifically for the Chinese market, in compliance with U.S. export controls against China. The company claimed that the RTX 4090D marks a significant advancement in performance, efficiency, and AI-driven graphics, and it is expected to be available to Chinese customers from January 2024.
When asked about the differences between the three newly launched graphics cards and the 4090D, Nvidia informed Chinese media Yicai that the RTX 4080 Super is positioned below the RTX 4090D in their Chinese product lineup. The company also confirmed that the three new graphics cards will adhere to export controls and are eligible for sale in China.
According to public data, the RTX 4090D is priced at 12,999 yuan (approximately $1,842), comparable to the price of the RTX 4090 product sold in the U.S. and significantly higher than the $999 price tag of the RTX 4080 Super. Nvidia stated that the new consumer-grade GPU chips will primarily be used for gaming but are also capable of running AI applications. For instance, the RTX 4080 Super can generate AI videos 150% faster than its predecessor. Nvidia also noted that recent software improvements would enhance the processing speed of large language models by five times.
As of the U.S. stock market close on January 8, Nvidia’s stock price had risen by over 6.4%, bringing its market value close to $1.3 trillion. This surge also influenced other U.S. chip stocks, with AMD and Intel seeing daily increases of over 5% and 3%, respectively. In the past year, buoyed by the global AI trend, Nvidia’s stock price has climbed by more than 230%.
