OnePlus on why just 5 years of updates, Phone (2a) render was fake, Week 6 in review

Welcome to your week 6 recap. OnePlus defended its policy of giving its users 5 years of software updates (4 years of major OS updates, and 5 years of security support) over the 7 years of Samsung and Google. OnePlus is focusing on the quality of the software and its fluidity over what it deems a promise that misses that point.

A press image made the rounds this week, supposedly of Nothing’s first midranger, the Phone (2a). It showed a phone without a Glyph interface and a similar design to the Nothing Phone (1). It turns out the render isn’t of the Phone (2a) – Steve H. McFly (aka @OnLeaks) revealed that the render is fake. SmartPrix further elaborated that the source of the render is a Nothing smartphone that didn’t make it out of the planning stage. The final nail in the coffin was a teaser by Nothing itself, which didn’t match the phone in the fake render. Case closed.

The Galaxy A55 5G got its NBTC certification, confirming 25W charging support. The phone is close to launching and is rumored to sport an Exynos 1480 chip wtih 8GB of RAM.

Asus has a Zenfone 11 Ultra in the works. It looks like the ROG Phone 8 Pro, has a 6.78-inch 144Hz display, the same 50MP wide, 13MP ultrawide, and 32MP 3x telephoto, and the same 5,500mAh battery, and Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset.

Xiaomi’s 14 series is coming to the global stage on February 25. We’ll get the compact Xiaomi 14 and the Xiaomi 14 Ultra – the 14 Pro is unlikely to get out of China.

We got an exclusive first look at the Redmi A3. It will have a 6.71” display, the first in the series with a high refresh rate (90Hz), and will cost less than INR 10,000.
