Optoma asserts that its latest 4K projector offers just about all the advantages of its predecessor in a package reduced in size by 34%. These potential benefits include a 240Hz/1080p “ultra-low” latency Gaming Mode, “flexible” short-throw technology and HDMI 2.0. The UHZ35ST also boasts eco-friendly features such as the potential for energy-efficient use and a 50% post-consumer recyclable plastic chassis.
Optoma has declared itself “the No. 1 4K UHD and DLP brand worldwide and in the Americas in projection technology“, which might be why it is confident enough to present its latest unit as somewhat of a refresh of a pre-existing model. The UHZ35ST is indeed largely a UHD35STx at an estimated 66% of the size.
Then again, the newer version still packs Optoma’s 240Hz/1080p Gaming Mode with as little as 4 milliseconds (ms) of lag, although that could rise to 16.9ms when the UHZ35ST goes back to its typical 4K/60Hz image quality.
Nevertheless, the OEM asserts that the projector will exhibit “superior color performance” in a “high” 3,500 lumens of brightness (as opposed to 3,600 in the UHD35STx) thanks to the nature of its DuraCore light source.
It is also touted as a particularly sustainable source, rated to last for 30,000 hours in Eco Mode – then again, other OEMs have made the same claim, as the figure seems to be a general function of laser projection.
Then again, the UHZ35ST still has 2 HDMI 2.0 ports as well as a 3.5mm jack, an Ethernet port and a powered USB type-A port. However, it is much more expensive than the UHD35STx on Amazon today at a starting price of US$$3,299.

I became a professional writer and editor shortly after graduation. My degrees are in biomedical sciences; however, they led to some experience in the biotech area, which convinced me of its potential to revolutionize our health, environment and lives in general. This developed into an all-consuming interest in more aspects of tech over time: I can never write enough on the latest electronics, gadgets and innovations. My other interests include imaging, astronomy, and streaming all the things. Oh, and coffee.
