The Oukitel OT8 is a new Android tablet with decent features, including a cellular modem and support for high-resolution playback of media content from streaming service providers.

Oukitel has introduced the OT8, a well equipped tablet which is unlikely to set any records in terms of performance. The Unisoc Tiger T606 is a SoC with limited performance capabilities and the RAM measures 6 GB. The internal storage amounts to 256 GB.
The screen of the Oukitel OT8 measures 11 inches diagonally and has a resolution of 1200 x 1920, making the tablet well suited to the playback of full resolution media content from streaming services such as Amazon Prime or Netflix. Widevine L1 certification is on board, which is not a given in cheaper tablets.
A battery with a capacity of 8800 mAh is installed and can be charged with a maximum charging power of 18 watts. The tablet specified as only 7.8 millimeters thin and the weight 515 grams, making it very portable. The use of a stylus is also advertised, but a digitizer is apparently not available, so the font thickness of notes is not determined by pressure.
Connections to 4G mobile networks is said to be possible and operation with two SIM cards is also supported. A classic jack socket for connecting headphones or headsets is installed. The main camera has a resolution of 13 MP and the front camera 8 MP. The model is scheduled to launch for a price of $179.99 in January.

I have been active as a journalist for over 10 years, most of it in the field of technology. I worked for Tom’s Hardware and ComputerBase, among others, and have been working for Notebookcheck since 2017. My current focus is particularly on mini PCs and single-board computers such as the Raspberry Pi – so in other words, compact systems with a lot of potential. In addition, I have a soft spot for all kinds of wearables, especially smartwatches. My main profession is as a laboratory engineer, which is why neither scientific contexts nor the interpretation of complex measurements are foreign to me.

Growing up in regional Australia, I first became acquainted with computers in my early teens after a broken leg from a football (soccer) match temporarily condemned me to a predominately indoor lifestyle. Soon afterwards I was building my own systems. Now I live in Germany, having moved here in 2014, where I study philosophy and anthropology. I am particularly fascinated by how computer technology has fundamentally and dramatically reshaped human culture, and how it continues to do so.
