It can be hard to find a monitor that fits all your needs, especially if you want one for gaming, especially especially if you’re on a budget. But if you mosey on over to PCWorld’s picks for the best gaming monitors, you’ll find a sweet 27-inch QHD Dell display that fits the bill. And today the bill is less than usual: just $199.99, over a hundred bucks off MSRP with free shipping.
In his review of the G2724D, Matt Smith said that it’s “an alluring and reliable budget pick that delivers everything gamers expect and has no significant flaws.” With a 27-inch screen and a boosted 2560×1440 resolution, it’s sharper than the usual gaming monitor but won’t max out a mid-range gaming PC or laptop. And with a fast 165Hz refresh rate — compatible with both AMD FreeSync and Nvidia G-Sync — the action will always stay buttery smooth.
My favorite bit in the spec list is that this is an IPS panel, not the usual VA panel you typically see on cheaper gaming monitors. That means that colors are far more accurate, good enough for some serious 2D or 3D production work/ It’s the kind of screen I can edit photos on with confidence. It’s also surprisingly bright for a budget monitor, with over 400 nits of brightness.
The Dell G2724D is missing a few bells and whistles, like extra USB ports and a headphone jack. But with HDMI 2.1 and two DisplayPort 1.4 connections, plus VESA mounting for using a monitor arm (or two), it covers every essential feature you need. There’s no telling how long this deal will last, so get an order in quickly if you’re ready to buy.
