Plug it Forward is a new not-for-profit organisation based out of SA that has the great objective of getting more electric vehicle chargers installed at small businesses, helping EV adoption. The concept of paying it forward (The idea of repaying kindness with kindness), has been around for decades, but this new EV focus is a great one and something I am happy to support.
To make electric vehicles viable for all Australians, we need a variety of charging options, from home chargers to destination chargers and rapid or ultrafast chargers on our highways.
As Australia’s electric vehicle adoption curve continues, we move from the early adopters to the average vehicle user and many of those vehicle users need additional charging options.
By installing more EV chargers at local businesses, these provide a platform for more commercial-use vehicles to transition to electric and given the vast amount of vehicles that don’t end up in garages overnight, we have to answer this challenge to make EVs viable for more Australians.
Plug it Forward asks those who want to help the cause to donate a charger, like Tesla’s Wall Charger, to kickstart the process. The business would need to get the charger installed and will have decisions on which charging speed they’re aiming to support, with many businesses featuring 3-phase power, there’s an opportunity for charging to be quite fast.
EV Chargers made available to businesses would then be available for customer vehicles, and even public use. As part of the agreement between Plug it Forward and the business, charging at the site will be at no cost. The locations on these chargers will be featured on EV charging site PlugShare.
This week we saw the Tesla refreshed Model 3, now being delivered to customers in Australia, rejoin the vehicles that you can get referral credits for.
If you can’t contribute personally, please consider supporting the mission by using this referral code when purchasing your next Tesla – https://www.tesla.com/en_au/referral/mark97029.
This week, I donated a Tesla Gen3 Wall Charger to Plug it Forward to support the mission. Thanks to so many amazing techAU readers, I was able to leverage referral credits to make this happen.
