Qualcomm has now confirmed rumours about the Samsung Galaxy S24 series. As expected, not all Galaxy S24 models will launch with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. Instead, Samsung will use next year’s Galaxy S smartphones to showcase the return of its own flagship Exynos chipset.
Qualcomm President and CEO Cristian Renno Amon has outlined the proliferation of its chipsets among the Galaxy S24 series. For context, Qualcomm confirmed well ahead of schedule last year that the Galaxy S23 series would launch without an Exynos variant in any market. However, it seems that this exclusivity has lasted a single generation.
Responding to a question from a J.P. Morgan analyst during Qualcomm’s Q4 2023 earnings call, Amon stresses that ‘we’re [Qualcomm] happy with our partnership with Samsung’. While that may sound positive, Qualcomm only expects to have ‘the majority share’ of Galaxy S24 shipments. By contrast, the company told investors in its Q4 2022 earnings call that it would reach ‘global share’ for the Galaxy S23 series.
Thus, it seems that Samsung has decided to return to its twin chipset strategy for next year’s Galaxy S24 models. According to previous rumours, Samsung will offer the Galaxy S24 Ultra exclusively with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. Conversely, the Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S24 Plus will feature the same chipset in North America but the Exynos 2400 in Europe and a few other markets. Qualcomm’s CEO hints that the Galaxy S24 series’ launch is ‘upcoming’, too. Currently, Samsung is rumoured to be preparing a January 2024 launch for all three models, possibly alongside the Galaxy Book4 series, details of which surfaced earlier this week.
