Qualcomm has unveiled the Snapdragon 7s Gen 2, a new 4 nm chipset that will debut next week in the Redmi Note 13 Pro. Surprisingly, it appears that the Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 is the weakest Snapdragon 7 series chipset yet since Qualcomm’s naming re-brand.

Qualcomm has announced the Snapdragon 7s Gen 2, a new 4 nm chipset that will debut in the Redmi Note 13 Pro. To recap, Qualcomm never released a Snapdragon 7 Gen 2, nor a Snapdragon 7s Gen 1. Instead, it moved from the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 to the Snapdragon 7 Plus Gen 2. Arguably, the Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 is closer to the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 than the Snapdragon 7 Plus Gen 2, although Qualcomm has not confirmed all details of its latest Snapdragon 7 series chipset yet.

For now, the company has revealed that the Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 has eight CPU cores split equally into efficiency and performance clusters. Thus, the chipset matches the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 and lacks the performance core afforded to the Snapdragon 7 Plus Gen 2. Similarly, Qualcomm has not disclosed the GPU used, other than that it will be marketed under the Adreno brand.

Moreover, the Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 has a slower Snapdragon X62 modem than other Snapdragon 7 series chipsets, as well as a lesser Qualcomm FastConnect 6700 system. Likewise, the Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 makes do with Bluetooth 5.2 instead of Bluetooth 5.3 and the older QuickCharge 4+ charging technology. Furthermore, the new Snapdragon 7 series chipset has a weaker Spectra Image Signal Processor (ISP) that can handle up to 48 MP single, 32 MP + 16 MP dual or 16 MP + 16 MP + 16 MP triple camera set-ups. Tellingly, Qualcomm lists the Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 below the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 in its 7 series product stack. For reference, Qualcomm has assigned recent Snapdragon 7 series chipsets the following part numbers:

Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 – SM7435-ABSnapdragon 7 Gen 1 – SM7450-ABSnapdragon 7 Plus Gen 2 – SM7475-AB
