Sonos has announced that it will be entering a new multi-billion dollar product category in 2024, which will “complement current Sonos devices” and will “delight customers and drive immediate revenue.” It is believed the new category is headphones, based on a leaked internal memo that confirms Sonos has a headphone division.
As part of its recently released Q4 fiscal results report, Sonos CEO Patrick Spence has stated that the company, in 2024, will be entering “a new multi-billion dollar category in the second half of the year that will complement our current offering, delight customers and drive immediate revenue”. He has also expressed confidence that new products will make a large portion of its revenues next year.
Around the same time, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman has confirmed, based on a leaked internal memo, that Sonos does indeed have a headphone division that is working on developing new products. Rumours have been circulating since 2019 about Sonos’ intentions to enter the headphone market, but now there appears to be a more definitive indication from the company itself. Whether it’s working on over-ear headphones or true wireless earbuds is not known, however.
Sonos has already established a solid reputation for its audio quality and product design, with its consistently well-reviewed smart WiFi speakers like the portable Move 2 and Roam, its wired indoor models like the Era 300 and Era 100, and its TV soundbars, the premium Arc, the Beam, and the affordable Ray. Its products are known for their excellent connectivity options, clean Apple-esque design and, of course, great sound. Headphones and/or TWS earbuds are a logical next step, even with tough competition in that market from the likes of Sony, Bose, Sennheiser, Jabra and others.

I’ve always been interested in technology, but it was my passion for music-making and photography that led me to dive deep into audio and imaging technology and understand all the tools that had fascinated me. I hold degrees in electronics engineering and business management, and have worked as a software developer as well as in marketing. Apart from being an amateur musician and photographer, I enjoy reading books, being outdoors, cooking and lately, running.
