Camouflaged Tesla Cybertruck prototypes have once again been spotted out in the wild — this time in the frozen test facilities of the Southern Hemisphere Proving Grounds. The Cybertruck was spotted doing both ice and snow testing, with a playful drift session taking place thereafter. As is to be expected, the Cybertruck’s four-wheel-drive system conducts itself impressively, even if there does seem to be some understeer.
The latest in what seems like a constant stream of Cybertruck sightings sees Tesla’s electric pickup truck playing in the cold weather at the Southern Hemisphere Proving Grounds. A number of videos, posted to Twitter by @CybertruckNZ, show the Cybertruck performing rather admirably in both snow and ice tests.
A closer look at the video shows that, although there’s nothing catastrophically wrong with the Cybertruck’s steering on ice and snow — the Cybertruck doesn’t seem to get out of control at any point during the videos — it does seem to under-steer initially before the body responds. It’s fair to expect the Cybertruck to perform well on ice and snow, thanks to its rear-wheel steering and quad-motor four-wheel-drive system.
Previously, the Cybertruck seems to have had a hard time, getting stuck in the mud on a rural Texas backroad. The Cybertruck is already at a disadvantage when it comes to driving on slippery road surfaces, thanks to its comparatively high weight. Whether this latest round of testing and improvements ends up perfecting its four-wheel-drive system is yet to be seen.
