Tesla has confirmed that despite “enormous challenges in reaching volume production,” the Cybertruck will start reaching customers before the end of November 2023. The company also claims that it has capacity to produce over 125,000 units per year.
Tesla’s much-delayed Cybertruck has been marching ever-closer to launch, and Tesla’s recent Q3 Financial Results report claims that the electric pickup truck will finally launch and start delivering to customers before the end of November 2023.
In Tesla’s accompanying Q&A Webcast it held on YouTube today, CEO, Elon Musk, emphasised that there will be “enormous challenges in reaching volume production with the Cybertruck and then making the Cybertruck cashflow positive.” Musk also adds that this is normal for any new vehicle, but especially “a product with a lot of new technology,”
While the Cybertruck is certainly a unique vehicle, claiming that it features a lot of new technology might be overselling it slightly. Except for Tesla’s gigacasting, a process set to reduce production costs for the Cybertruck, its high-voltage architecture, and, arguably, the vehicle’s stainless steel body panelling and rear-wheel steering, the Cybertruck appears to be largely built around existing EV and Tesla technology.
Despite these challenges, Tesla’s Q3 investor report claims that the Cybertruck will start initial deliveries to customers in November, and goes on to report that its Texas Gigafactory has enough production capacity to produce over 125,000 Cybertrucks annually.
Additionally, Tesla confirmed previous rumours that the Cybertruck will be based on an 800-volt architecture, which is once again set to reduce cost.
Despite a clearer launch window, an exact launch date for the Cybertruck is still unknown, although recent merchandise and Tesla rewards program updates have sparked rumours that a launch date is imminent.
