Tesla Model Y is the 2nd highest-selling vehicle in Australia, beating the Ford Ranger.

June 2023 was another record sales month for electric vehicles in Australia. They now account for 8.8% of new vehicle sales, accounting for 7.4% for the year to date.

The Tesla Model Y recorded 5,560 sales, making it the second-highest-selling vehicle behind the Toyota Hi-Lux (6,142). The fully electric-mid-sized SUV outsold the popular Ford Ranger which registered 5,334.

There were 11,042 EVs sold in June, of which 7,018 had a Tesla logo on them. The company sold 1,458 Model 3’s, but clearly, as I predicted, the darling is now the Model Y.

The Model 3 owns 43.8% market share of its> $60K medium vehicle segment, while the Model Y dominates its SUV Medium> $60k category, accounting for 61.3%.

These are stunning numbers for electric vehicles in general and it seems now the Model Y is overtaking Utes, the only question is, when will it take the top spot?

Speaking of utes, unfortunately, LDV doesn’t break out the T60 vs the T60 EV, but with just 14 combined sales.. it’s safe to say Australia’s first EV Ute didn’t hit the mark with consumers, with a large price an obvious concern.

The BYD Atto 3 accounted for 1,532 sales, while other competitors like the Polestar 2 delivered just 251 vehicles.

On the manufacturer charts by volume, Tesla is currently at position 8, with just 2 models in the country.
