Move over Frank Green, there’s an even more expensive drink bottle on the market. HidrateSpark Pro is a smart water bottle that costs as much as A$159.00.
Having seen the HidrateSpark pro on the shelves of JB Hi-Fi today, I started thinking, are people really prepared to pay this kind of premium to add technology smarts to their water consumption?
We all need to drink water to stay alive, so optimising your water intake makes sense on the surface, but HidrateSpark takes that to an extreme. This water bottle features a smart sensor to remind you when it’s time to drink, similar to our smart watches that remind us to get up and move.
HidrateSpark calls the Pro, the world’s smartest water bottle ever created. That’s a bold assertion, but it’s certainly got the price tag to match the premium claim.
At the bottom of the bottom, you’ll find a multi-coloured LED smart sensor puck that glows to remind you when it’s time to drink and tracks your water intake by syncing via Bluetooth to the FREE HidrateSpark app.
It’s unlikely that you’ll find too many others with the same water bottle, but if you want to personalise the LED light, you can choose between 6 preset colour combinations, or create your own using GlowStudio.
HidrateSpark also integrates across a number of fitness platforms including Apple Health, Fitbit, Garmin Connect, Google Fit and Withings Health Mate.
The bottle even features a ‘find my bottle’ location feature, similar to what we find in our phones, to ensure you never lose your bottle (and with this level of investment, you certainly won’t want to lose it).
The product includes a rechargeable battery and comes with a fast-charging cable. The battery should last around 10-14 days after which you need to remove the base and charge it, similar to our watches or earbuds. I do find it strange they couldn’t leverage wireless charging like your toothbrush.
A couple of words of warning, the sensor puck is not submersible, or dishwasher safe and you’ll need to avoid using hot liquids in the bottle.
In terms of keeping your drink cold, you can add ice and the stainless steel vacuum insulated bottle will keep your water cold for 24 hours.
The bottle is available in 4 sizes, 20, 21 24 and 32 ounces which translates to 600ml, 620ml, 700ml and 940ml.
While in-store today I saw the product being sold for A$159.00, while JB HiFi currently shows a discount of $30 off, leaving the price a premium A$129.00. Given you can pick up a cheap water bottle for just a few dollars, or a fairly decent bottle, you may spend $30-$50, so how do you feel about spending as much as 5x that to get a smart bottle with some intelligence?
