On the evening of October 26th, Lei Jun, the founder, chairman, and CEO of Xiaomi Group, announced the official upgrade of Xiaomi‘s strategy to the “Human X Car X Home” smart ecosystem. During the event, Xiaomi also unveiled several new AIoT products, including the Xiaomi HyperOS operating system, the high-end flagship Xiaomi 14 series, Xiaomi Watch S3, and the Xiaomi TV S Pro 85.
Lei Jun mentioned that Xiaomi‘s exploration of HyperOS began with MIUI, which was introduced when Xiaomi was founded in 2010. HyperOS has undergone thirteen years of development, involving over 5,000 engineers.
The HyperOS combines the self-developed Vela system kernel with a deeply modified Linux system kernel to enhance device performance. In terms of cross-device connectivity, Xiaomi has developed the HyperConnect framework, enabling unified connection protocols and real-time communication across all devices. Regarding security, Xiaomi emphasizes that Hyper OS is a comprehensive security system covering the kernel layer, service framework layer, and cross-device layer. It also incorporates an independent “self-developed microkernel security system” at the kernel layer.
Furthermore, Xiaomi‘s Vice President of the Smartphone Division, Jin Fan, highlighted that an open ecosystem is a crucial principle of Hyper OS. Xiaomi‘s self-developed IoT embedded software platform, Vela system, will be fully open-source. The capabilities of HyperConnect and over 200 AIoT platform categories will also be made available to application developers.It is reported that the domestic version of Xiaomi Hyper OS will be rolled out starting from December, including six major categories such as smartphones, tablets, televisions, cameras, and more.
Xiaomi 14 series continues the performance and imaging configuration of the high-end flagship line. It is equipped with the third-generation Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 mobile platform, delivering a 32% increase in CPU performance and a 34% reduction in power consumption compared to the previous generation. The GPU performance has improved by 34%, with a 38% decrease in power consumption. The entire series features the latest Leica Summilux lenses paired with self-developed imaging sensors, resulting in a 180% increase in light intake compared to the Xiaomi 13.
In terms of other specifications, the Xiaomi 14 employs a C8 luminescent material for the screen, offering a brightness of up to 3000nit. The Xiaomi 14 Pro features a fully symmetrical curved screen with a consistent curvature radius on all four sides and corners. Xiaomi stated that this project involved research and development costs 18 times higher than traditional screens and was pre-researched two years in advance. In terms of materials, the Xiaomi 14 Pro is the first to adopt Xiaomi Dragon Crystal Glass and also introduces a special edition with a titanium metal frame.
As for pricing, the Xiaomi 14 starts at 3,999 yuan, while the Xiaomi 14 Pro starts at 4,999 yuan.
During the launch event, Lei Jun also revealed the latest updates on Xiaomi‘s car project, stating that it is progressing smoothly and will officially launch in the first half of 2024. He expressed that the “Human X Car X Home” smart ecosystem strategy will soon complete the final piece of comprehensive implementation.
