The XMG gaming laptop benefits from moderate noise emissions, comparatively low power consumption and still a high level of performance (Ryzen 7 7840HS, GeForce RTX 4050). Completing the setup are good runtimes and a moderate price range (from US$1,170).

Schenker’s Apex 15 is a mid-range gaming laptop. The Phoenix APU can be equipped with a GeForce RTX 4050 or RTX 4060 – our review sample has an RTX 4050 on board. The present variant is available for about US$1,540. The prices start at around US$1,170. The laptop can be customized and purchased on the website Bestware.com.
Ryzen 7 7840HS and GeForce RTX 4050 equip the laptop for rendering, video and image editing as well as gaming. The CPU is supported by 32 GB RAM (DDR5-4800, dual-channel mode). It is possible to expand the RAM. The laptop can accommodate two PCIe 4 SSDs (M.2-2280). RAID-0/1 is supported.
The hardware can run all current games smoothly on the matte screen. Its full display resolution (2,560 x 1,440 pixels) and high settings can usually be selected. Higher resolutions would also be possible when a corresponding display is connected – but the settings would have to be reduced. The Apex has two video outputs (Mini Displayport, HDMI). The installed 15.6-inch screen (2,560 x 1,440 pixels, IPS, 240 Hz, sRGB) largely left a good impression on us.
The laptop doesn’t produce much noise in everyday use, and a compromise between performance and noise is possible to achieve when gaming. Its relatively low power consumption compared to the competition should not go unmentioned. One battery charge (62 Wh) is sufficient for practical runtimes of about 7 to 8 hours – measured in terms of the battery’s capacity, these are good rates. Too bad: The battery cannot be powered via the USB-C port (USB 3.2 Gen 2).
Further information and a variety of benchmark results can be found in our review of the XMG Apex 15 (Late 23).
