On July 22, XPeng Motors and Volkswagen Group announced their collaboration to develop innovative electronic and electrical architecture technology. This announcement builds on the strategic cooperation framework that the two companies agreed to on April 17, 2024. The focus of their joint effort will be on enhancing the CMP and MEB platforms of Volkswagen vehicles produced in China.
To expedite the development process, a joint team of engineers from both companies has been established in Guangzhou and Hefei. Their primary objective is to speed up the development of the electronic and electrical architecture. The first car model featuring this jointly developed technology is projected to be mass-produced within two years.
In addition to this project, XPeng Motors and Volkswagen Group are actively exploring further opportunities for cooperation. Their goal is to broaden the application of the jointly developed electronic and electrical architecture technology. Both companies are optimistic about this strategic collaboration and anticipate that it will strengthen their partnership.
He Xiaopeng, Chairman and CEO of XPeng Motors, expressed his enthusiasm about the partnership with Volkswagen Group. He highlighted the swift progress they’ve made and the significant synergies that have emerged from their collaboration. He also expressed his eagerness to expand their technical cooperation and deepen their strategic partnership.
Bernd, Chairman and CEO of Volkswagen Group in China, echoed these sentiments. He praised the rapid progress of the collaboration and the potential it shows. He emphasized that this joint venture is another milestone for Volkswagen’s ‘In China, For China’ strategy, as it aligns with their commitment to addressing Chinese customer needs and advancing technological innovation. By 2026, all pure electric Volkswagen models in China will feature the new, jointly developed electronic and electrical architecture.
