Lenovo Yoga Slim 7 14 G8
Lenovo offers two very good 14-inch subnotebooks with the Yoga Slim 7 and Yoga Pro 7. We reviewed both models and compare them with each other.
Lenovo offers a wide range of 14-inch laptops and it is not always simple to find the right model. We already reviewed to versions of the Yoga Pro 7 14 G8 with the entry-level AMD model powered by the Ryzen 7 7735HS with iGPU as well as the faster SKU with Intel CPU as well as the discrete GeForce RTX 4050 Laptop. Now we had the chance to take a closer look at the new Yoga Slim 7 14 G8, which is only equipped with integrated graphics adapters, but modern Zen4 CPUs in return.
The cases are very different, because the Yoga Slim is even thinner than the Yoga Pro and this also effects the port situation, because the Slim 7 only offers USB-C ports. The Yoga Pro 7 is a both thicker and heavier, but you get more ports including USB-A as well as HDMI. The memory, however, is soldered on both models and there are no differences in terms of input devices, either, including the very comfortable keyboards. The sound system on the Slim 7 is superior though.
Lenovo uses a new 2.9K OLED screen for the Yoga Slim 7, which offers great image quality out of the box with accurate profiles for P3 as well as sRGB. The subjective picture quality is excellent, but there are deficits in terms of maximum HDR brightness as well as PWM flickering at all brightness levels. The IPS panels of the Yoga Pro 7 are superior in terms of PWM and even the base model with the 2.5K resolution and 90 Hz (sRGB) offers a very good picture quality. The optional 3K panel with 120 Hz is even better, but also requires more power. The OLED panel on the Yoga Slim 7 also requires more power than the IPS models, but still manages a respectable runtime of 9.5 hours in our Wi-Fi test at an adjusted brightness.
All three models are very similar in terms of CPU performance since all of them are equipped with 35/45W CPUs. Even last year’s Ryzen 7 7735HS (Zen3+) in the base model of the Yoga Pro 7 offers very good performance figures and now you can even get the current Ryzen 7 7840HS in combination with the RTX 4050 Laptop GPU, which offers good gaming performance. The new Yoga Slim 7 obviously cannot keep up with that, even though the Radeon 780M is not a slow iGPU by any means. The performance is completely sufficient for everyday tasks, but you should get the RTX 4050 Laptop if you want to play on a regular basis.
Then there is the price and the two models with the RTX 4050 Laptops are very similar to each other, but if the iGPU is sufficient for you, the Yoga Pro 7 with the Ryzen 7 7735HS offers a great price-performance ratio for little more than 1000 Euros. The Yoga Slim 7 14 on the other hand starts at around 1150 Euros for the slower Ryzen 5 SoC. Please see our comprehensive reviews for more information:
