San Francisco 49ers linebacker Fred Warner said Seattle Seahawks wide receiver DK Metcalf needs to “learn to keep his composure” after a clash between the two players led to a sideline scuffle Sunday.
The incident led to Metcalf’s ejection late in the Seahawks’ 28-16 loss to the 49ers.
“I don’t know what happened,” Warner said. “I told him he tackles really well, and then for some reason he didn’t like that, and I guess what happened, happened. It’s unfortunate, man. He’s gotta learn to keep his composure.”

Warner picked off a late pass from quarterback Drew Lock that was intended for Metcalf, a turnover that sealed the 49ers’ victory.
The Seahawks receiver then chased down Warner and pulled at his face mask as other players joined the conflict.

Warner did not receive discipline following the incident.
The 6-7 Seahawks fell behind the 6-7 Los Angeles Rams in the NFC West standings with the loss.
Meanwhile, the 49ers improved to 10-3 on the season and could finish as the top seed in the NFC.
“If you want to call it frustration, yeah, it was frustration,” Metcalf said after the game, per the Seattle Times’ Bob Condotta. “But from my side, he hit me in the back of the head, so I just retaliated.”
The early exit marks the second ejection of Metcalf’s career. He was similarly sent out after grabbing a player’s mask in the final minutes of a Seahawks loss in November 2021, during an altercation with then-Green Bay Packers safety Henry Black. Metcalf was subsequently fined $6,949.
If Metcalf is similarly charged for his conflict with Warner, it won’t be the first time this season.
The receiver was fined more than $21,000 for unnecessary roughness and unsportsmanlike conduct in Week 1 following a hit on Los Angeles Rams defensive back Akhello Witherspoon.
Metcalf paid the most on-field fines of any NFL player in 2022 as he doled out $61,000 to the league. He has already topped that total by accruing at least $65,563 in penalties so far in 2023.
The receiver said after he was flagged for unnecessary roughness in a Week 6 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals that he is “not going to change the way I play,” per ESPN’s Brady Henderson.
“Nobody’s perfect… I’m just going to continue to be me,” Metcalf said then.
49ers cornerback Deommodore Lenoir was also ejected following the incident.
The scuffle marked the second straight week with a 49ers ejection after linebacker Dre Greenlaw was removed from a game against the Philadelphia Eagles last Sunday.
