The government on Wednesday announced that the Cross Harbour Tunnel will start using the electronic auto-toll system – also known as HKeToll – on July 23.
The Transport Department said both directions of the tunnel will be closed from 4am to 5am that day to help with the transition to the new system, and warned that all relevant bus routes will be diverted during this period.
The authorities said the HKeToll system will be implemented for the Eastern Harbour and Western Harbour Crossings in August.
The department added that so far, more than 790,000 tags for the eToll system have been issued, and 84 percent of them have also opened eToll accounts.
