Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister and NCP leader Ajit Pawar accused some parties of doing politics over minority communities and asserted that nobody would face any injustice while he was in the government.
Addressing an NCP outreach programme for minorities in Vashi, Navi Mumbai, Pawar said that the rule of law would be followed in Maharashtra and called on the minorities to not live in fear. He also said he was a man of his word.
“When there was an incident between two communities in Satara and one Muslim man died. I visited the house of the victim and met his family. Till the time I am here, you need not fear. We will all follow the law,” he said.
“He added, “I want to tell all of you that Maharashtra will continue to have the rule of law and nobody will face any injustice. Everyone knows I am a man of my word.”
Referring to the clashes in Mira Road before the ‘Pran Pratishtha’ of Ram Lalla idol at Ayodhya’s Ram Temple last month, Pawar said, “There was an incident in Mira Road as well. I immediately intervened and asked the police commissioner to meet the delegation and ensure normalcy. I have always worked to maintain law and order.”
He said everyone should celebrate the festivals of every community and every religion with happiness and warmth.
The NCP leader also hinted at fighting local body elections in Maharashtra independently. He was seen giving hope to his workers who thought that their shot at local elections was compromised due to the NCP’s coalition with the BJP and the Eknath Shinde faction of Shiv Sena.
“When the Congress and the NCP were together, they used to fight Lok Sabha and assembly elections together and local body elections separately. During local body elections, the NCP can think differently. So, workers should not worry,” he said.
Meanwhile, during the outreach programme, nine resolutions were passed. One of the resolutions was to give political, job and educational reservations to Muslims after a caste survey was conducted.
Later, Najeeb Mulla of the NCP minority cell issued a clarification, saying that the word ‘political reservation’ was a mistake and that the resolution was only about reservation in jobs and education.
