Overcoming the naysayers, James Cameron’s “Avatar: The Way of Water” managed to become a major event late last year – pulling in $2.3 billion worldwide at a time when most movies seem to be struggling to break the $1 billion mark.
We know three more films are on the way and we know that principal photography on the live-action elements of “Avatar 3” was completed at the same time as the second one with both films shot back-to-back (along with the first act of the fourth film).
Now, the film is in the midst of a lengthy post-production process. Just how long that will be? According to Cameron himself, it’s going to take a while.
Appearing at an industry conference in Wellington, New Zealand, Cameron offered an update on the status of the film, saying a “very hectic two years of post-production” remain on the project.
We do know that while the second film dealt with ocean Na’vi, the third will deal with fire Na’vi, a tribe who lives with ash in presumably a volcanic environment. We also know Jake’s son Lo’ak, played by Britain Dalton, is narrating the new one.
No comment on the rumors that Cameron wants to release a very extended director’s cut of the third film after its theatrical release which is currently slated for December 2025.
