Six small business grants to apply for right now

Business grants are available on a national, state, and local council level for businesses that meet the government’s growth standards.

State-level grants are usually given to businesses that align with the state’s development goals, including regional development, industry-specific focus, job creation, or research funding for specific subjects.

Here are six grants that we believe you can apply for right now to support your business growth.

Australian Centre for Quantum Growth program

The grant will provide funding to create a centre that will undertake industry growth activities to catalyse industry growth, support collaborative research and strengthen Australia’s position as a global quantum leader.The program was announced as part of the National Quantum Strategy and is an element of the Growing Australia’s Critical Technologies Industries budget measure announced in the 2023-2024 budget.

What do you get?

Up to $18.5 million over 4 years for up to 75% of eligible project expenditure.

Who is this for?

Businesses applying as a consortia with an eligible lead applicant. One of the consortia partners must be an Australian industry-based partner working in the quantum sector.

You can apply if you:

are applying as a joint consortia

are an eligible entity

have an eligible project

have eligible expenditure

can fund your share of the project costs, and any ineligible expenditure

are applying with at least one Australian industry-based partner working in the quantum sector.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) Adopt Program

The AI Adopt Program provides funding to establish up to five AI Adopt Centres to support small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) that engage in international and interstate trade to adopt responsible AI-enabled services and enhance their businesses.

What do you get?

Grants between $3 million and $5 million over four years for up to 50% of eligible project expenditure.

Who is this for?

Businesses in Australia that can establish centres to help Australian SMEs adopt AI technologies in their business.

You can apply if you:

are an eligible entity

meet additional eligibility requirements

have an eligible project

have eligible expenditure

can fund your share of the project costs, and any ineligible expenditure.

Queensland Indigenous Business Grant

This program provides funding to QLD Indigenous businesses to help them scale up seafood production and processing. The grant is open to Indigenous businesses in Queensland. Applicants must also make a financial co-contribution of 25% or more of the cost of their project.

What do you get?

Funding up to $20,000.

Who is this for?

Indigenous businesses in Queensland.

Applications will be accepted from Indigenous businesses in Queensland.

Funding for medium to long-term, industry-led research collaborations

Cooperative Research Centres (CRC) Grants provide funding for medium to long-term, industry-led research collaborations. Find out about CRC Grants and how to help improve the competitiveness, productivity and sustainability of Australian industries.

What do you get?

Up to 50% of eligible grant project costs for an industry-led research collaboration.

Who is this for?

A collaboration between at least one Australian industry organisation and one Australian research organisation.

Funding for Tasmanian employers to improve literacy 

. These grants support employers and peak bodies to run projects to improve literacy and numeracy of Tasmanian workers (paid and volunteers). 26TEN Grants provide businesses and peak bodies with funding to help them improve the literacy and numeracy skills of their workers.

What do you get?

Between $5,000 and $50,000.

Who is this for?

Tasmanian businesses and peak bodies.

Skills Solutions Partnerships VIC

The Skills Solutions Partnerships (SSP) program provides a platform for collaboration between government, industry, TAFEs and dual sector universities to design and pilot innovative short training approaches to rapidly address workforce skills gaps in priority sectors.

What do you get?

A fully funded co-design for project partners to identify a training solution to address industry skills gaps.

Who is this for?

Business, business industry group, dual sector university or TAFE headquartered in Victoria.
