Taylor Swift earns a new No. 1 hit in America this week as her new single “Fortnight” debuts atop the Hot 100. With another ruler, the singer-songwriter breaks her tie with one of the most successful women in music history while also matching with several others.
“Fortnight” marks Swift’s twelfth No. 1 on the Hot 100. An even dozen champions means she’s now tied with both Madonna and The Supremes on the ranking of the artists with the most rulers on the weekly ranking of the most-consumed songs in the U.S.
Swift, Madonna, and The Supremes now all sit together in sixth place on the list of the musicians with the most Hot 100 No. 1s. They come in behind The Beatles (20), Mariah Carey (19), Rihanna (14), and both Drake and Michael Jackson (13).
Among solo women, Swift now lands in third place for the most No. 1s on the Hot 100, tied with Madonna. She’s behind only Carey and Rihanna.
Including male solo acts, Swift appears in fifth place on this ranking. In addition to Carey and Rihanna, the “Fortnight” star and Madonna also place just one smash behind both Drake and Jackson.
Before “Fortnight” arrived, Swift was already matched with Whitney Houston for the fourth-most No. 1 singles on the Hot 100. Now, Houston has been pushed down on this list, steady with her 11 chart-dominating tunes.
Swift has now led the Hot 100 with all of the following songs: “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together,” “Shake It Off,” “Blank Space,” “Bad Blood (ft. Kendrick Lamar),” “Look What You Made Me Do,” “Cardigan,” “Willow,” “All Too Well (Taylor’s Version),” “Anti-Hero,” “Cruel Summer,” and “Is It Over Now? (Taylor’s Version) [From the Vault],” and “Fortnight” with Malone. Seven of those tunes–more than half–have debuted at No. 1 on the chart.
“Fortnight” marks the fifth No. 1 for Post Malone, who is officially credited as a featured artist on the single. It’s one of 10 new top 10 hits from The Tortured Poets Department, Swift’s latest full-length. That project also opens at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, earning the singer the largest start of her career.
