The nomination of Engr. Imam Kashim Imam as the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA) has been revoked by President Bola Tinubu.
This was contained in a statement released by Ajuri Ngelale, the presidential spokesperson on Thursday.
In a statement, Ngelale said, “President Bola Tinubu has directed the withdrawal of the nomination of Engr. Imam Kashim Imam to serve as the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA).”
He added “The President’s withdrawal of the above-mentioned nomination is directed with immediate effect. All other appointments to the Board and Executive Management team of FERMA are not affected by this directive.”

The president had earlier approved the appointment of an 11-man Governing Board and Management team of the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA) for a renewable term of four years, in accordance with Section 2(3) of the FERMA Amendment Act, 2007.
In a release, Tinubu listed the new appointees to include the Chairman of FERMA Board — Imam Ibrahim Kashim Imam; Managing Director of FERMA — Chukwuemeka Agbasi; Member (NARTO) — Yusuf Lawal Othman; Member (FMW) — Ibi Terna Manasseh; Member (FRSC) — ACM Shehu Mohammed; Member (Finance) — Babatunde Daramola-Oniru and Member (South-South) — Hon. Preye Oseke.
Others are Member (South-West) — Hon. Oye Ojobe; Member (South-East) — Dr. Kenneth Ugbala; Member (North-Central) — Senator Timothy Adudu; Member (North-East) — Abubakar Bappa and Member (North-West) — Aminu Adamu Papa.
The 24-year-old son of Kashim Imam holds a first-class bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering and a master’s in engineering business management.
Nigerians react to Kashim Ibrahim’s appointment
Nigerians who criticized the appointment argued that the Imam is too young and inexperienced for such a high-profile position.
They argued that Imam’s lack of experience would make it difficult for him to lead FERMA effectively. They also pointed out that the appointment could set a dangerous precedent, as it could encourage other politicians to appoint their children to high-profile positions, regardless of their qualifications.
On the flip side, some defended the appointment, arguing that Imam’s qualifications and background make him well-suited for the job.
