In an industry traditionally dominated by men, particularly in Nigeria, many women are making significant strides, leaving a lasting impact on the oil and gas sector with their innovative ideas and exceptional leadership.

These women are not only excelling in their respective roles but are also inspiring a wave of inclusion and breaking down gender biases in the sector.  As we celebrate International Women’s Day today, let’s celebrate some remarkable women who are reshaping the landscape of Nigeria’s oil and gas industry.

Catherine Uju Ifejika

Catherine Ifejika stands tall as the chairman and chief executive officer of Britannia-U, an indigenous company offering a range of services from subsurface engineering to exploration and production in the energy sector. A law graduate from Ahmadu Bello University and a member of the Nigerian Bar Association, Ifejika’s journey in the oil and gas sector began in 1987 at Texaco. Her expertise and leadership have been instrumental in steering Britannia-U towards success.

Godfrey Ogbechie

Godfrey Ogbechie, the group executive director of Rainoil Limited, brings a wealth of experience from her background in agricultural economics and banking. Her role at Rainoil is crucial in overseeing corporate support service functions, including human resources and information technology, ensuring the organization’s smooth operation.

Folorunsho Alakija

Folorunsho Alakija, the vice-chairman of Famfa Oil Limited, is a prominent figure in the oil and gas industry and one of the wealthiest black women globally. Her company, Famfa Limited, made a significant discovery in OPL 216, leading to a legal victory that solidified her position in the industry. Alakija’s philanthropic efforts through the Rose of Sharon Foundation further highlight her commitment to empowering the underprivileged.

Bola Shagaya

Bola Shagaya, the founder of Voyage Oil and Gas Limited and managing director of Practoil Limited, has made her mark in the industry by importing and selling base oil. Her journey from working at the Central Bank of Nigeria to becoming a successful entrepreneur showcases her versatility and determination.

Amy Jadesimi

As the CEO of Lagos Deep Offshore Logistics Base (LADOL), Amy Jadesimi is a trailblazer in the sector. With degrees from Oxford University and Stanford Business School, Jadesimi’s expertise in finance and business has been pivotal in LADOL’s growth, catering to the needs of deep-water offshore oil and gas operations. Her recognition by Forbes as one of the ’20 Youngest Power Women in Africa’ underscores her influence in the industry.

Audrey Ezigbo

Audrey Ezigbo, along with her husband, co-founded Falcon Corporation Limited, where she plays a vital role in its growth and success. Her leadership extends to Falcongaz Limited, where she serves as the managing director, further demonstrating her impact on the industry.

Winifred Akpani

Winifred Akpani, the managing director and CEO of Northwest Petroleum and Gas Company Limited, has been instrumental in the company’s growth in the exploration, production, and marketing of petroleum products. Her commitment to philanthropy, especially in education, further highlights her character and influence beyond the oil and gas sector.

Victoria Samson

Starting her career as a dealer for Texaco Nigeria Limited, Victoria Samson’s entrepreneurial spirit led her to co-found the Bovas Group with her husband. The company has grown significantly, operating numerous service stations across Nigeria and contributing to the development of the country’s oil and gas infrastructure.

Moroti Adedoyin-Adeyinka

As an executive director of Sahara Group, Moroti Adedoyin-Adeyinka’s contributions to the energy and infrastructure company are noteworthy. Her journey from an accountant at KLM to a key figure in Sahara Group exemplifies her dedication and skill in navigating the industry.
