Alfred H. Kurland Publishes Powerful Thesis On the Urgent Need to Nurture Today’s Teen Activists for the Future of Democracy
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Since 1984, Alfred H. Kurland has been working in the field of teen empowerment and seeing the direct impact it has on preserving the values of democracy while infusing new life in communities across America. He assembled his vast wealth of experience into a comprehensive book titled “The Soul of Adolescence Aligns with the Heart of Democracy.” Book reviewers all agree that his voluminous work could provide powerful references and guides to helping today’s teens.

San Diego, CA – WEBWIRE – Tuesday, March 5, 2024

Rather than being dismissed for their “raging hormones and underdeveloped brains,” Kurland argues, teens should be valued for their curiosity, optimism, and idealism. – BlueInk Review

In today’s world, there is much concern over how many of today’s teens are being influenced rather than empowered. Thus, experts like Alfred H. Kurland see an urgent need to recognize the potential residing in many adolescents by guiding parents and educators to help them realize it.

In his case, it’s in an ambitious and high-volume work titled The Soul of Adolescence Aligns with the Heart of Democracy: Orphans, Rebels and Civic Lovers Unite.

For over 30 years, Kurland has worked in youth services as a program manager. He has a dedicated passion for helping teen volunteers and their communities. His work earned him the Unsung Hero Award from the Petra Foundation. The models and strategies he shares in his book have seen real-world application in programs such as the Ivy League and Uptown WINS and the Police Athletic League’s Teen Services Department. In this books concluding chapter, Mr. Kurland provides real life models of municipal teen advisory boards, as well as profiling the successful campaign to lower the age to 16 on NYC Community Boards. He finishes with an appeal to have the voting age reduced to the age of 16 for local elections.

Kirkus Reviews offers praise for how his book dismantles the bias of “adultism and contends that it overlooks the many ways in which teens are uniquely constituted to successfully participate in civic affairs: They are brimming with idealism, hungry for knowledge, naturally distrustful of brute authority,
and remarkably sensitive to hypocrisy.”

Reviews from Foreword Reviews also add that the book effectively combines “personal memories with political theories and recommendations for activism, The Soul of Adolescence Aligns with the Heart of Democracy is an ambitious text filled with suggestions for revitalizing democracy by recognizing the idealism and civic capacity of teenagers.”

Overall, The Soul of Adolescence Aligns with the Heart of Democracy: Orphans, Rebels and Civic Lovers Unite presents a compelling resource guide for those studying how best to engage, support, and encourage today’s teens in building their communities. Readers eager to learn all they can from it can purchase a copy on Amazon and Barnes & Noble. Alfred H. Kurland also offers more resources and updates on his website at https://www.alfredhkurlandbooks.com/.
