Apple TV+ has officially cancelled its acclaimed Phil Lord and Chris Miller-produced comedy “The Afterparty” after two seasons, TVLine has learned exclusively.
Each season revolved around a self-contained murder mystery and featured a new cast aside from regulars Tiffany Haddish, Sam Richardson and Zoë Chao.
The recent second season, which wrapped early last month, followed the aftermath of a ruined wedding after the groom is found murdered.
Detective Danner (Haddish) returns to help Aniq (Richardson) and Zoë (Chao) solve the whodunnit by questioning family members, star-crossed lovers and business partners. Each episode offered a different perspective and visual style as we hear each suspect’s retelling of the weekend.
Early development work had already begun on a third season with a writer’s room setup in January according to executive producer Katie Miller on Instagram Live.
In fact, the second season ended with a teaser for a third season which would follow a murder that takes place at the after-party for the premiere of “X Marks the Murder Spot,” a film about the events of the first season. That won’t be happening now.
