Apple TV+ has reportedly ordered a ten-episode TV series adaptation of William Gibson’s iconic sci-fi novel “Neuromancer” which is set up at Skydance Television and Anonymous Content.
The ten-episode series hails from co-creators Graham Roland (“Dark Winds,” “Jack Ryan”) and JD Dillard (“Sleight,” “The Outsider”), with Roland serving as showrunner and Dillard directing the pilot. Both executive produce.
The series will follow a damaged but expert super-hacker named Case, who is thrust into a web of digital espionage and high-stakes crime with his partner Molly, an assassin with mirrored eyes, aiming to pull a heist on a corporate dynasty with untold secrets.
“Neuromancer” is notable for being the most famous early cyberpunk novel and delving into the issues of cyberspace, virtual reality, artificial intelligence and cheap ubiquitous technology long before these things became an integral part of modern culture.
Roland and Dillard say in a joint statement: “We’re incredibly excited to be bringing this iconic property to Apple TV+. Since we became friends nearly ten years ago, we’ve looked for something to team up on, so this collaboration marks a dream come true. Neuromancer has inspired so much of the science fiction that’s come after it and we’re looking forward to bringing television audiences into Gibson’s definitive ‘cyberpunk’ world.”
Also executive producing are Gibson, Zack Hayden, David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, Matt Thunell, Drake, Adel ‘Future’ Nur, and Jason Shrier.
Various attempts have been made over the past few decades to adapt the book into a film with none getting out of the development stage.
Gibson did see his “The Peripheral” turned into an Amazon series, and did write the script for the “Johnny Mnemonic” film adaptation.
