Whilst filmmaker Shawn Levy can’t say much about the third “Deadpool” film, especially as the project has stalled only halfway through production and is in limbo until the strike ends, there is one thing he’s happy to clear up – the title.
The film, which follows on from “Deadpool” and “Deadpool 2,” sees not just Ryan Reynolds returning as the character, but also sees the return of Hugh Jackman as Wolverine in a role expected to be a co-lead.
Speaking with WIRED, Levy confirmed that the movie’s title has yet to be finalized and from the sounds of it won’t be something as simple as its current “Deadpool 3” branding. That said, actually picking one is something he’s finding difficult:
“No, there’s no title yet. I sometimes refer to it as ‘Deadpool versus Wolverine’ or ‘Deadpool and Wolverine’ or ‘Deadpool 3 With Wolvie’ – we’ve got a few titles we’ve been bandying about, but boy, it’s a tough one.”
The film is also the first to feature Wade Wilson in the MCU, and Marvel Studios has opted to incorporate titles with a subtitle rather than numbered sequels in the past (the “Iron Man” films being the notable exception).
“Deadpool 3,” whatever it’s named, was originally slated for May 2024. It’s currently not clear when the film will arrive in cinemas.
