Filmmaker David Leitch is reportedly in early talks to direct the new “Jurassic World” feature in the works at Universal Pictures for a July 2nd 2025 release.
Original “Jurassic Park” scribe David Koepp has returned to write the project which is already deep into development with the studio happy enough with the script to get it into production ASAP.
The film is said to be part of a ‘new era’ with an all-new storyline, thus not involving either “Jurassic World” leads Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard, or returning “Jurassic Park” cast.
It is expected to continue beyond the events of “Jurassic World: Dominion” two years ago, and the hiring of Leitch suggests a different approach to the material is in store.
Leitch is an actor/filmmaker/stunt performer who got his start as an uncredited co-director on “John Wick” (he also executive produced the sequels). As a director he’s done five films so far – “Atomic Blonde,” “Deadpool 2,” “Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw,” “Bullet Train” and this year’s “The Fall Guy”.
He also produced “Nobody,” “Kate” and “Violent Night” and has experience with this franchise – serving as second unit director on 2015’s “Jurassic World”.
Veteran producers Frank Marshall and Patrick Crowley are back producing and Steven Spielberg will executive produce along with Leitch and Kelly McCormick. The six films in the franchise thus far have earned more than $6 billion worldwide.
