Recently, a tragedy struck at Bhushi Dam in Lonavala, Maharashtra where a woman along with four children were swept away. All the five bodies were recovered. But after the tragic incident, the Pune district administration came into immediate action and introduced prohibitory orders across several popular picnic spots, including Bhushi Dam and the Pavana Dam in Maval.

The new rule will be effective from July 2 to 31. These measures have been introduced to ensure tourist safety during the peak monsoon season in the state.
The notification was issued by the District Collector Suhas Divase. The notice focuses on following strict safety protocols mandated under the Bhartiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita and the Disaster Management Act, 2005. These include identifying dangerous regions, deploying lifeguards and rescue teams at such places. Warning boards to caution visitors about potential risks will also be introduced.

The recent accident highlights the dangerous conditions that might occur by monsoon-filled water bodies such as waterfalls and dams. Prohibitory orders under section 163 of the BNNS and the Disaster Management Act now prohibit gatherings of five or more people. It also restricts people’s entry into water bodies. Also all activities like taking selfies and creating reels at specified locations have been banned completely.
The areas covered by these orders include Maval, Mulshi, Ambegaon, Khed, Junnar, Bhor, Velha, Indapur, and Haveli. Some of the famous tourist spots such as Tiger Point, Lion’s Point, and Rajmachi Point in Khandala, along with waterfalls in Bendewadi and Dahuli, are also included in the order. Other spots under the order include Mulshi Dam, Tamhini Ghat, Milkybar waterfall in Mulshi, Khadakwasla and Warasgaon dams in Haveli.
For those who don’t know Bhushi Dam in the scenic hills of Lonavala, is a popular tourist attraction. The dam region is noted for its quiet natural surroundings and cascading waterfalls during the monsoon. Visitors in large numbers frequent here to enjoy picnics amidst lush greenery and to experience the refreshing waters that flow through the dam.
