With the actor’s strike on, production on a second season of the Neil Gaiman comic adaptation “The Sandman” has been paused.
In a posting to BlueSky Social (via Total Film), Gaiman confirmed the Netflix series has “stopped shooting completely, along with everything else that was squeaking by without writers.”
He added: “I hope that the AMPTP sees reason and gets back to the table with the actors and the writers. I have no reason at this point to think they will see reason.”
Netflix was famously said to not be referring to the new episodes as a second season but rather a second volume, with actor Mason Alexander Park indicating the other month that they were “gonna tackle the next huge chunk of stories” starting this Summer.
Netflix premiered the first season last Summer, the show based on arguably Gaiman’s most iconic solo comics effort. The story followed Morpheus, the personification of dreams and one of the seven Endless, who is captured in an occult ritual in 1916. Over a century later, he escapes and sets out to restore order to his realm, the Dreaming.
The show starred the likes of Tom Sturridge, Kirby Howell-Baptise, Gwendoline Christie, Charles Dance, Jenna Coleman, Patton Oswalt, Joely Richardson, Stephen Fry and Boyd Holbrook. Reviews were very good and called it quite faithful.
The series ranked number one globally on Netflix’s Top 10 titles within three days of its release. It took months, but ultimately a renewal order came through.
