Juraj Slafkovsky’s performance is the talk of the town. And the reason is simple: the Canadiens’ forward has been performing really well in recent games.
Sitting alongside Cole Caufield and Nick Suzuki on the CH’s first offensive unit, the 19-year-old Slovak is currently demonstrating why he was selected first overall in the 2022 draft.
He’s playing the right way, he’s involved on the ice and he’s gaining in confidence. Slafkovsky has clearly understood that he has the ideal frame to be a dominant NHL player, and we’re seeing it lately, especially along the boards.
The young man uses his body to win his battles, something we didn’t necessarily see before.
Slafkovsky is doing so well these days that Réjean Tremblay devoted part of his editorial of the day to him on the BPM Sports website. And the man nicknamed “Le parrain” (The Godfather) didn’t mince words about the Habs player:
But the man who’s going to lead the Habs to the Stanley Cup in 2027 is Juraj Slafkovsky. He’s the one who has both the physical potential and the talent to anchor the CH attack. – Réjean Tremblay
Réjean Tremblay also asserted in his text that the Habs will be able to start dreaming of the playoffs before long, if Slaf keeps up the pace :

2027 is a long way off. But by then, the CH’s young players and prospects will have fully matured and the club should be able to compete with the NHL’s top teams, with the rebuild complete.
The word patience has been used so often with the kid in the last 18 months that he must be tired of hearing it himself.
It’s not as if he doesn’t work hard to get results, after all. But now he seems to have arrived at his destination, and it’s good news for both him and the Montreal Canadiens organization.
Slaf hasn’t picked up a point in his last six games, but that’s not important any more than it has to be… Because he’s been the club’s best forward for a few games now.
The points will come on their own… But he mustn’t change his way of doing things, because it’s working right now.
In bursts
– That’s it.
If the CH wants to keep letting its youngest players develop down low, it will have no choice but to consider a veteran like Gignac if the injuries keep piling up. It would be a great story if he managed to sign in the NHL after 2 1/2 seasons in Laval.
