Having raked in north of $200 million, Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour film is now the top-grossing concert movie “in history,” according to AMC CEO Adam Aron. Meanwhile, the theater chain’s stock price spiked by close to nine percent during today’s trading.
Aron took to Twitter/X to tout the latest financial milestone for Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour, which began showing on the 13th. Running a staggering 169 minutes and accompanied by concession items including an Eras Tour “official popcorn tub,” the movie edition of the ultra-popular concert reportedly topped $150 million in global pre-sales.
(On Ebay, more than a few profit-minded sellers appear to be moving a number of the mentioned popcorn tubs, besides exclusive cups and posters. At the time of this writing, one listing had sold an astonishing 66 of the tubs, each priced at $49.98 including shipping.)
Now, on the heels of this massive opening weekend as well as solid ticket sales thereafter, the work has generated over $200 million, as initially noted.
The underlying data looks to have derived from Comscore, which reportedly indicated that the Eras Tour film had earned $203 million at the box office globally. Furthermore, the same source drove home that the total is the largest to date attributable to a concert film.
Regarding AMC’s initially mentioned stock-price boost, shares jumped by 8.85 percent today, to $9.96 apiece when the market closed. And while the meme stock’s still down over 67 percent on the year, its price has improved by about 22 percent during the past month or so.
Needless to say, Swift has benefited financially from the commercial success of the Eras Tour, its movie, and music projects including the newly released 1989 (Taylor’s Version). The latter has broken multiple Spotify records since becoming available to fans last Friday.
To be sure, the 33-year-old has officially achieved billionaire status, according to multiple reports. The Universal Music Group-signed act, who some believe is “one of the most significant generational artists of the last 40 or 50 years,” also seems to be producing commercial results far beyond the live music and film spaces.
Amid a well-documented relationship with the Kansas City Chiefs’ Travis Kelce, Swift has started attending games, telecasts of which have reportedly drawn record ratings for the NFL by spurring Swifties to tune in for the opportunity to catch a quick look at their favorite artist.
