Figures keep coming in for the “Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour” concert film with the movie now tracking to take in a domestic debut of $95-97 million and a worldwide start of $126-130 million in its first weekend of release.
It’s the biggest debut for a concert film in history, beating 2009’s “Michael Jackson: This Is It” which began with $74.25 million. It’s especially impressive here as it was announced only six weeks ago and has had a relatively minimal marketing campaign.
The film, distributed by AMC Theatres, looks to collect a projected $31-33 million from 94 international markets with No. 1 openings in the United Kingdom, Mexico, Australia, Germany and the Philippines. It also pulled in $13 million from IMAX screens worldwide.
Sunday numbers aren’t in yet though so a locked in figure can’t be revealed until all the tickets are in. The film also has further markets to open in including Brazil, South Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan and Hong Kong which all get it in early November.
As there’s no real precedent for this kind of film, it’s not clear what the total box-office will be and what will be the potential drop-off next weekend. The movie is sticking to a distinct release pattern of screening only between Thursdays and Sundays over at least the next four weeks.
Also at the box-office, “The Exorcist: Believer” is set for a distant second at $11 million (down 58%), “PAW Patrol: The Mighty Movie” third with $7 million, “Saw X” fourth with $5.6 million, and “The Creator” fifth with $4.3 million.
