Officially we have three announced “Star Wars” films on the way with projects from filmmakers James Mangold, Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy and Dave Filoni all officially announced and seemingly going ahead.
There’s also the recently revealed “Lando” movie starring Donald Glover, the project revealed after plans for a “Lando” series reportedly shifted to one for a movie.
Then there’s one from “Deadpool 3” director Shawn Levy that looks like it may happen, with Levy himself commenting that he plans to get around to it once he wraps “Deadpool 3”.
Earlier today came word from scooper Daniel Richtman that “Thor: Love and Thunder” director Taika Waititi’s planned “Star Wars” movie was “dead”. No further information was available.
As the report spread, Star Wars News Net has hit back saying they “can confirm this isn’t the case” and “the project is still alive at Lucasfilm”.
Waititi has been linked to a potential “Star Wars” film for years and back in May said he’s still working on the script when he can, but he had plenty of other commitments keeping him busy.
This was reinforced by Waititi himself last week joking he would never finish his “Star Wars” script during a presentation at the Toronto Film Festival. Earlier this year, reports suggested Waititi wanted to begin production on his film in 2024 but with the strikes causing delays, even once resolved, it’s not clear when we’ll ever see it.
