Construction of Fourth Mainland Bridge (4MB) starts In Q1 2024, here are 10 things to know about the 37-kilometre bridge.
The Lagos State Government say that the construction of the proposed 37-kilometre Fourth Mainland Bridge (4MB) will start “by the end of March or April” – in the first quarter of this year.
The Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, disclosed this on Thursday in his keynote address during the Lagos West Senatorial District Town Hall Meeting held at the Balmoral Convention Centre, Sheraton, Ikeja.
Here are 10 things to know about the proposed 37-kilometre, Lagos Fourth Mainland Bridge as compiled by Autojosh.
1) The proposed Fourth Mainland Bridge (4MB) is a 2 x 4 lane carriageway cross-sectional road with permission for BRT Lane and future road construction. According to the Lagos State Government, the project is expected to be completed in four years – likely 2027.
2) Lagos State Government had on Dec 29, 2022, announced Messrs. CCECC—CRCCIG Consortium as the preferred bidder for the construction of the Fourth Mainland Bridge (4MB) project.
3) The $2.5 billion project was to cost the state an estimated sum of ₦844 billion in the 2017 budget. Another sum of $2.2 billion was proposed by the Lagos State Government for the construction in September 2020.
4) The Lagos State Government says that the Lagos Fourth Mainland Bridge (4MB) project will help create about 5000 jobs for young engineers, adding that properties along the project corridor are expected to appreciate geometrically.
5) When completed, 4MB is expected to become the second longest bridge in Africa with three toll plazas, nine interchanges, a 4.5 kilometre Lagoon Bridge and an eco-friendly environment.
6) The bridge is one of the priority solutions to reduce congestion on the existing Carter Bridge, Eko Bridge and the 11.8-km 3rd Mainland bridges while opening new areas of the City for future developments.
7) The 4MB Project is a proposed Public Private Partnership (PPP) transport infrastructure development. It will comprise of the construction and operation of a greenfield tolled road and bridge with a design speed of 120km/h, including the development of adjacent real estates.
8) It is also expected to span about 37-kilometres, starting from Abraham Adesanya in Ajah, on the Eti-Osa-Lekki-Epe corridor and traverse the North West towards the Lagoon shoreline of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway via Owutu/Isawo in Ikorodu.
9) Some of the construction companies that expressed interest in the project includes :
Julius Berger Nigeria, China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC), CRCCCI Nigeria, China State Construction and Engineering Corporation Nigeria Ltd and Bua International Ltd.
10) While CCECC-CRCCIG emerged as the preferred bidder for the Fourth Mainland Bridge Project, LASG stated that Messrs. MOTA-ENGIL (NIGERIA & AFRICA), CCCC & CRBC CONSORTIUM are the reserved bidder.
