A provincial coroner has begun an inquiry after a 74-year-old man died following a fire late Thursday on Lafontaine Street in Gatineau’s Hull district.
Firefighters were on the scene at the apartment building at about 9:30 p.m.

Police set up a security perimeter to allow firefighters to bring the blaze under control.
Residents were evacuated during the time firefighters were working on the fire.
However, all residents were able to return to their homes afterwards.
Damages were limited to one apartment, the fire service said
One resident was taken to hospital by regional paramedics with unspecified medical concerns. He was pronounced dead on arrival at hospital.
The fire scene remained under police surveillance Friday pending analysis by investigators and fire-scene technicians.
