Drivers in Ottawa and elsewhere in Eastern Ontario are urged not to be alarmed if they encounter military convoys over the weekend.
The Canadian Armed Forces will be conducting convoy operations and driver training on roads and highways in the Ottawa and North Grenville areas on Saturday and Sunday.

“Exercise Owl Talons” will be conducted on highways 416, 417, 401 and others.

The forces have established pre-planned routes between Ottawa and Mallorytown, just east of Kingston.
Personnel will conduct short stops and longer halts throughout the duration of the exercise, stopping for rest, fuel and scheduled maintenance.
Participating soldiers will not carry any weapons or ammunition, the forces reassured the public.
“This important driver training supports year-round preparations for emergencies in Canadian communities, including natural disasters like flooding and wildfires, as our members prepare to deploy in response to requests for assistance and to serve alongside community members and other first responders,” the forces said in a communiqué.
