Ottawa police seeking robbery and assault suspects

The incidents occurred between late January and early April, news releases on Wednesday said.

The Ottawa Police Service issued a series of announcements Wednesday seeking public assistance in identifying suspects in two robberies and an assault.

One of the three involved a second suspect connected to personal robberies in the 2100 and 3100 blocks of Carling Avenue in late January.

In addition to two previously reported robberies on Jan. 26, a third robbery of an elderly victim a day earlier has been linked to the same male suspect and now includes an additional female suspect, police said in a news release Wednesday.

At approximately 7:50 p.m. on Jan. 25, the male suspect approached an elderly woman in the 3100 block of Carling, ripped her purse from her body and fled on foot. At approximately 11:20 p.m., the victim’s debit cards were fraudulently used in the 3100 block of Strandherd Drive in Barrhaven.

The third victim had no physical injuries, police added.

The male suspect was described as approximately 30 years old, standing between five feet eight inches and five feet 10 inches (173-178 centimetres) tall with an average build and facial hair. He also had a noticeable scar on the right side of his neck.

The female suspect was described as a white female, approximately 20 years of age, with an average build and a noticeable tattoo on the top of her right hand.

Anyone with information about the identity of this individual or information about the incidents was asked to contact the Ottawa Police Service Robbery Unit at 613-236-1222, ext. 5116. Anonymous tips can be submitted to Crime Stoppers toll-free at 1-800-222-8477 or online at crimestoppers.ca.

In the second robbery case, the police robbery unit wants to identify a suspect in the theft of a vehicle on April 1 in the 2900 block of Gibford Drive, north of the Ottawa International Airport.

At approximately 9 a.m., the suspect approached the victim as they were exiting their vehicle in a commercial parking lot. The suspect then assaulted the victim and stole his vehicle, fleeing eastbound towards Uplands Drive.

The victim had minor physical injuries, a police news release said Wednesday.

The suspect was described as a Black male in his early 20s standing approximately six feet (183 centimetres) tall with a thin build.

Again, anyone with information about the identity of this individual or information about the incidents, including cellphone or other video, was asked to contact the Ottawa Police Service Robbery Unit at 613-236-1222, ext. 5116. Anonymous tips can be submitted to Crime Stoppers toll-free at 1-800-222-8477 or online at crimestoppers.ca.

Meanwhile, the Ottawa Police Service Central Criminal Investigations Unit is seeking public assistance in identifying a suspect involved in a Feb. 27 assault in the 100 block of Argyle Avenue, not far from Elgin Street in Centretown.

A police news release said the suspect planned on attending the seller’s address to purchase an item that had been listed online for sale, though the seller cancelled that sale after changing their mind.

The suspect then contacted the seller online under another name, asking to purchase a different item. At approximately 11 a.m., the suspect attended the seller’s residence, and they met outside to complete the sale.

The suspect then argued with the seller and assaulted her.

The victim had minor physical injuries, the police news release said.

The suspect was described as a light-skinned male, approximately 18-24 years of age, standing five feet 10 inches (178 centimetres) tall with a slim build and dark hair.
