The humidex could make it feel like temperatures are in the 40s in the coming days, Environment Canada said in a heat warning issued for the Ottawa area on Monday afternoon.

The “heat event” will begin Tuesday and could extend into Thursday for eastern regions, the weather agency said.
“Hot and humid air can also bring deteriorating air quality and can result in the Air Quality Health Index approaching the high risk category,” it said.
The forecast calls for a high of 30 C with a 30 per cent chance of showers Tuesday; sunny and a high of 32 Wednesday; and more sun and a high of 30 Thursday. Things are expected to cool down slightly on Friday, with a 60 per cent chance of showers and a high of 26.
“Heat warnings are issued when very high temperature or humidity conditions are expected to pose an elevated risk of heat illnesses, such as heat stroke or heat exhaustion,” Environment Canada said in the release, and reminded everyone to drink plenty of water — even before they feel thirsty.
